One Spirit is a socially engaged company offering valuable transformational experiences in close cooperation with trusted local partners. Our activities aim to create more connection between cultures. We have a clear focus to connect with the spiritual and esoteric traditions of the earth.
Our activities are based on a solidarity tourism principle. We strive to have the maximum of our travels' economic benefit go to the local communities. We join forces with people from all backgrounds and invite a variety of teachers and guides. We cooperate only with local, socially engaged businesses and experienced teachers and guides.
We design our experiences in such a way that they have a low cultural impact on the local community. We always keep an open mind and keep with cultural awareness. Like this, we can make genuine, valuable connections, and we can enjoy our journey responsibly.
Since One Spirit was founded in 2018, we've supported different local initiatives, and give back to the communities of where we host our retreats and journeys in diverse ways. Over the years, we supported nutritional aid foundation Konojel in San Marcos la laguna, Francisco Puac's Mayan cosmology educational project for the children of San Pedro la laguna,
families affected by racial hate crimes against indigenous wisdom keepers, and people affected by natural disasters.
Since 2021, we started our own Tule reed planting mission to help cleanse the waters of lake Atitlan. The gorgeous Atitlan lake has been a place of power and reverence for ages. One of the native plants of the lake's ecosystem is the Tule reed (Schoenoplectus c.). It possesses water-purifying qualities which decrease contamination, since its roots filter water naturally. Besides giving oxygen back to the Lake, Tule provides ecosystems to numerous aquatic species and migratory birds. Its controlled cultivation helps diminish erosion on the beaches. One of its most important features is natural filtration that removes phosphorus, nitrogen, and other nutrients left behind from soaps and chemical fertilizer that feed cyanobacteria.
Tul planting days take place together with the local council of Tule planters (Ruk'u'x Chupup - Heart of Tule). They know where to harvest the seeds without damaging the plants as well as where to plant the reeds in the places where the plants are most likely to thrive and sustain themselves. They take the lead on the actual planting while we coordinate everything and support financially. On the planting days, we help tying the plants to the rocks and other tasks together with volunteers.
All donations received (after bank fees) go entirely to:
- Paying the Tule planting crew a decent wage
- Boat transport to take seeds to the planting sites
- Natural fiber ropes to tie the plants to the rocks that keep them in place
- Sweet breads and coffee for the planters
- Supporting the crew in getting new or better wetsuits
