Keith buys his Cacao beans directly at the farms the Cacao Spirit leads him to, before they are brought to his workshop in the Kaqchikel Maya town of San Marcos la laguna. Here, Keith makes sure the cacao is prepared in the traditional way, to assure full potency, a clean product, and the best flavor. The beans are lightly roasted by a team of skilled indigenous women. Kaqchikel Mayan women from 20+ local families earn an independent income, while working at home, at their own pace, preparing the cacao beans. The women hand peel and inspect each bean. The process of hand-peeling allows for the moldy beans to be discarded and not be incorporated into the Cacao. A second quality check is done at the workshop itself, before milling and packing. Some of the nicest looking Cacao beans are packaged to be sold as whole beans, yet most of the Cacao is milled to create the smooth, magical Cacao paste that we use in ceremonies and sell.

We have been using Keith's Cacao for many years and have journeyed extensively with it.
